How to Be Self Employed

I’ve been self employed since January 1, 2008 when I finally got the courage to quit my J.O.B. and start my own business. I had been searching for years for how to be self employed. I finally settled on an Ebay business, and I quit my 9-5 job. I did Ebay for several years and was fairly successful. I definitely liked having my own business, working at home, setting my own hours, and being my own boss.

But I soon found out that the bigger your Ebay business gets, the harder you have to work. I was working six and seven days a week, and it just wasn’t what I had in mind when I decided to be self employed.

In my opinion, being self employed shouldn’t mean working seven days a week. The whole reason I wanted to quit my job in the first place was so I could have more freedom. I hated being stuck in the same office eight hours a day, five days a week. I felt like my whole life was passing me by! But the Ebay thing wasn’t much better.

Instead of being tied to an office, I was tied to my home, stuck shipping packages all day every day, without ever having a day off. So I set out to find another way to be self employed and actually enjoy myself and have more freedom.

That’s When I Found Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is where you have websites that make money – that’s the simplest way to describe it. It’s a way you can work at home online, have your own business, set your own hours and be your own boss WITHOUT working seven days a week! I started my training to be an affiliate marketer in 2015. I’m a full time affiliate marketer now – but I say that lightly, because full time in affiliate marketing is more like 20-25 hours a week (LOVE it!)

How to Start Self Employment

The way I started was signing up for the free starter program at Wealthy Affiliate. They taught me everything I needed to know to have my own business and work at home online. I now have two websites and two YouTube channels. I have hundreds of email subscribers and social media followers. I work at home in my pajamas – sitting on my couch with my laptop. Best Way to Be Self Employed

In my opinion, doing affiliate marketing is one of the best self employed jobs because it’s easy to learn, and it can revolve around a topic you like and enjoy. When I started the free program with Wealthy Affiliate, I chose animals as my topic because I’m a huge animal lover. With the free training, I built a website to help animals.
